Five years after qualifying as an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects, he set up his own practice working from home. After 21 years, The Thomas Saunders Partnership (TTSP) had developed into one of the larger firms of London (130 staff) with several offices overseas specialising in architecture, environmental space planning, interior design and the refurbishment and restoration of historically listed buildings.
In 1968 he was elected a Fellow R.I.B.A. In 2005 he was admitted to the RIBA specialist register of Client Design Advisor (CDA).

In 1984 he relinquished his position as Senior Partner and resigned from the practice to pursue further and wider interests in the field of architecture. Since then he has continued to act as an independent consultant architect, RIBA CLient Design Advisor, CDA Coordinator, concerned with Health & Safety aspects of design and construction and advisor on crime prevention in environmental design. His services included acting as Client Representative and Project Director to HSBC, Tishman International Management Limited, hotel groups and other residential, commercial and leisure property companies. He served as chairman on one of the companies of City Merchant Developers Ltd from its inception until it merged with another property company. In 1988 he founded The Cheyne Walk Trust.

In 2006 as an RIBA CDA he was selected by a Russian developer to visit Moscow to review the development of a new village and to report on the various schemes proposed by international architects and town planners.

After leaving TTSP he began exploring a deeper understanding of architecture and master builders and the effect buildings and the built environment have on us which culminated in writing his book The Boiled Frog Syndrome sub-titled Your Health and the Built environment, published in 2002 by John Wiley & Sons and has since been published in Portuguese by Editora Pensamento-Cultrix Ltda. in Brazil.

In 2004 Elsevier Ltd. published his peer reviewed paper Health Hazards and electromagnetic Fields commissioned by the international journal Complementary Therapies for Clinical Practice. He now sits on their International Advisory Board.

In 2007 Watkins Publishing Limited published his book The Authentic Tarot - Discovering Your Inner Self.

He is an Associate Lecturer at the University of the Arts London.

Further activities include writing, broadcasting and delivering seminars on the quality of architecture, elctromagnetic fields, geopathic stress and sick building syndrome, including lectures on Continuing Practice Development (CPD).

He has traveled extensively in Europe, the USA and Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela, the Caribbean and the Bahamas, Egypt, Kuwait, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, India, Japan, Kenya and Tanzania.

He is an experienced sailor including two Atlantic crossings in own 13m ketch; spent three weeks under canvas 300 miles north of the Arctic Circle and in 1974, alone with four native Indians, traveled 1,500 miles into the Amazon Jungle.
